A Handmade Leaning Trike That Rides Like a Motorcycle
This Custom Leaning Trike Bike project was built completely from scratch using a Bajaj 175cc three-wheeler engine and a handmade tilting chassis.
Building a normal trike bike was never the goal for this project. I wanted something that could keep the stability of a trike while still leaning naturally like a motorcycle during cornering.
This Custom Leaning Trike Bike was designed to provide motorcycle-style leaning with the stability of a trike.
This handmade leaning trike bike is powered by a Bajaj 175cc three-wheeler engine and uses a custom-built front tilting chassis. Unlike a conventional trike, the front section of this bike leans independently while the rear wheels remain fixed.
After months of fabrication, testing, welding, and tuning, the bike has successfully completed its first real test ride.

Why I Built This Leaning Trike Bike
Normal trike bikes can become unstable during fast cornering or when riding across side slopes. The chassis tends to stay rigid while the road angle changes, which can create a tipping sensation.
To solve that problem, I designed this custom leaning system.
The front section of the chassis leans naturally like a motorcycle, helping the bike stay balanced during turns and uneven terrain.
The result is a riding experience that feels surprisingly close to a normal motorcycle.
This Custom Leaning Trike Bike was created to handle corners and side slopes more safely than a conventional trike.

Main Specifications
Engine & Drivetrain
- Engine: Bajaj 175cc three-wheeler engine
- Cooling: Air-cooled
- Gearbox: Manual gearbox with integrated differential
- Drive Type: Dual rear wheel drive
One of the biggest advantages of using the Bajaj three-wheeler engine is the integrated differential inside the gearbox. This simplified the drivetrain setup significantly.
The bike uses two Bajaj three-wheeler rear hubs connected to the differential system.
This Custom Leaning Trike Bike uses a Bajaj 175cc three-wheeler engine because of its compact design and integrated differential system.

Chassis Measurements
| Part | Measurement |
|---|---|

| Rear Track Width | 106 cm |
| Rear Axle Height | 20 cm |
| Tilting Pivot Height | 21 cm |
| Front Fork Length | 75 cm |
| Fork Rake Angle | 30.5° |

| Rear Wheels | 16×6.50-8 |
| Seat Height | Approx. 65–67 cm |

Front Tilting System
The most unique part of this project is the leaning front chassis.
Unlike my previous leaning trike build, where the entire rear section leaned together with the bike, this project uses a different concept.
In this design:
- The rear wheels remain fixed
- The front chassis section leans
- The rider naturally leans into corners like a motorcycle
This setup improves stability while still giving the bike a natural leaning feel.
This Custom Leaning Trike Bike uses a front tilting chassis to achieve motorcycle-like cornering and balance.
The geometry was carefully tuned using:
- 30.5° rake angle
- Approximately 85–95 mm trail
- Wide rear track for stability
The final result feels smooth, predictable, and confidence-inspiring during riding.

Test Ride Results
The bike has already completed its first successful test ride.
Even though the project is not fully finished yet, the current results are better than expected.
The Custom Leaning Trike Bike remained stable even during fast cornering and side slope riding tests.
Test Ride Impressions
- Excellent balance
- Stable during high-speed cornering
- No rollover feeling on side slopes
- Smooth leaning motion
- Feels similar to riding a normal motorcycle
One of the most interesting moments during testing was riding across a side slope.
The rear wheels followed the angle of the hill while the front chassis stayed upright through the leaning mechanism. This clearly showed how effective the leaning system is compared to a normal trike.
Fabrication Process
Most parts of this bike were handmade in my garage.
This includes:
- Main chassis
- Rear swing arm section
- Tilting frame structure
- Mounting brackets
- Drivetrain setup
- Custom alignment work
The goal was not only to build something functional, but also to experiment with a different type of leaning trike concept.
This Custom Leaning Trike Bike was fabricated by hand using custom-built chassis and tilting components.
Future Improvements
The project is still evolving.
The first test ride was mainly done to identify issues and improvements before final completion.
Planned improvements include:
- Final bodywork
- Seat improvements
- Finishing details
- Better paint and cosmetics
- Additional tuning and testing
The full completed version of the bike will be featured in a future update.
This Custom Leaning Trike Bike project will continue evolving with more testing, tuning, and final finishing work.

Final Thoughts
This project started as an experiment inspired by leaning trike concepts like the Honda Gyro, but evolved into a completely custom handmade machine.
The goal was to combine:
- Trike stability
- Motorcycle-style leaning
- Better cornering confidence
- Unique engineering
The result is a bike that feels very different from a conventional trike and much closer to a real motorcycle during riding.
This Custom Leaning Trike Bike proves that a handmade trike can still deliver a motorcycle-like riding experience.
More updates, riding videos, and the final completed build will be coming soon.
